Why I love my reMarkable tablet

A kindle you could write on – so you don’t have loads of pieces of paper everywhere, just a perfect digital notepad, that’s what it is.

What’s great:

Long battery life – my iPad runs out so quickly, while this lasts for a week. ** Update – I’ve gone for a Remarkable 2 now and it lasts even longer. It’s got a much quicker boot up too, almost instant on.

Very nice to write on, just like lovely paper

Very light to hold, which make more difference than you’d expect

Great in bright light eg sunshine, – I like to sit outside in the sun and think about stuff, and this is the only gadget that allows that

Syncs to laptop and can email pages to yourself (and to other people)- so you can export your notes easily if you want to

Great for thinking and creating and organising your thoughts: You can move drawings and text around the page, make them bigger or smaller, rub bits out, copy them onto other pages, duplicate pages or diagrams so you can write on them while still keeping a neat copy of the original; and move pages into different folders to keep the filing neat.

More polite in a meeting than typing on your laptop.

Here’s one I sent to myself via email:

What you don’t get:

It’s not cheap! But then it’s a business tool, and what price creativity?

No back light so you can’t use it in low light or the dark, it’s like a book – (unless you have a light next to you!)

No colour – there is a light grey highlighter but otherwise it’s just black, like a pencil or pen. I would like colour, but then it keeps my notes simple and easy on the eye.

No internet – so that means no interruptions from emails, no going off down a YouTube rabbit hole. If you need to quickly look something up then you have to use your phone.

Can’t search – well, you almost can, it does convert handwriting to text (although I never use that function), but basically you need to make sure you file things in an organised way or before you long you have hundreds of pages and can’t find what you want. You can have as many folders and subfolders as you like so it’s OK as long as you think about it. But then with papers you lose them or leave them behind, at least with this they are all in one place and you always have everything with you – and you can move pages into subfolders, while if you have a notebook you can’t move pages around.

I went for the more expensive pen as well – you can rub out using the other end. I like that….

Overall I love it, I use it all the time. I wish I was on commission!
