Unnecessary Adornments – aargh

As a half Norwegian, I love my Ø and it annoys me when people miss out the line through it and call Bjørk “Bjork” (like chalk) and Bjørn Borg “Bjorn Borg” (like Born Borg). It’s NOT the same as an o, it’s a completely different letter pronounced “err” like in “word” or “nerd”.

But MUCH worse is when lines and umlauts are ADDED to normal English words just to make them “more stylish” – much as I like everything scandi being regarded as cool, it irritates me because I then read them wrongly:

Here I’m reading Mernster Energy:

(and anyway I prefer cøke)

… and Rerst Coffee

…. and some nice smelling stuff I noticed in my bother’s toilet:

Aperthecary – reminds me of ermehgerd…..

.. and (though I do like their music) The Blue Euyster Cult:

unnamed 47

.. and of course the great Moteurhead

Motorheadselftitled

There’s a third band, which to be honest I’ve never listened to (because I just KNOW I won’t like them) and here they are: mertley crer

Finally, to their credit, there is a beer called…

Brilliant!

Please send me any more that you find – I’m going to start collecting them as an antidote to my annoyance!
