Recommended: combine the above with a negotiation skills training course, so you know about the skills that go with the numbers – how to prepare your tradables, the wording to use, the art of not opening first, the importance of a walk away point, etc. – at the very least get my udemy course or view it on Linkedin Learning.

Tips:

1 – Don’t open first if you’re the buyer, and try to avoid opening first even if you’re the seller.

2 – Before putting in your counteroffer, try saying “Can you do better than that?” – and if they move then you are counter-offering from a better position

3 – “Flinch” when they make you an offer – look unhappy

4 – Always be nice, hoping to find a way you can get a deal to be viable for you

5 – Trade when you move from your previous position – “If you gave me this…. then I could afford this much…..”

6 – Use non-round numbers, which sound more carefully thought-out

7 – Be genuinely prepared to walk away if the deal isn’t acceptable. It could be that there is no overlap.

All this and much more is included in my online udemy course, also on Linkedin Learning if you are lucky enough to have access to that. (Or you can take the free 28 day trial).
