Lockdown Lethargy – a wasted opportunity?

This third lockdown is definitely the most boring of the three – the novelty has worn off, it’s cold outside, and we thought we’d be through it all by now and we’re not.

The world seems paralysed – businesses are on hold, workforce on furlough (if they’re lucky) – were all just waiting for it to end.

And even the small stuff is on hold.

For example, our ancient freezer needs replacing, and it’s one click on amazon to get a new one, but my wife is saying “I can’t be bothered, let’s do it when the lockdown is over”.

It feels as if there’s no point in planning because we don’t know what will happen next, and no need to act because nobody else is.

BUT – this is the BEST TIME to get ahead. Everyone else is stopped, so you can get ahead. You’ve got the time to think, and the time to work on plans. Like someone stuck in prison who builds their muscles, or reads and learns, this is the time to do it, if you can motivate yourself. This is the ideal time to clear out your home office, learn new skills from linkedin learning or udemy.com, or start planning your own business.

We are being forced to stand back and look at our ‘normal’ lives – the commuting, the pressure, the boredom, …and the good things, the things we love, that maybe we don’t get enough time for . This is the perfect time to think about how to do more of what we love and less of what we don’t.

Apathy and procrastination don’t need much encouragement to take over, and they will if you let them. If you do nothing you’ll go backwards.

What are you going to start today, to begin your new and great next phase??
