
How about setting yourself the challenge of being able to identify ten constellations? That’s probably half of the sky covered!
Here are my top ten – you can do it!
But its worth noting that most of the constellations are out of view for some of the year – for example you can’t see Orion in the summer. Here’s a chart of what to look for at any given time of year (5 means highly visible, 3 is OK, 1 is down low and hard to find, blank is not there at all) (Northern hemisphere)

I’m afraid I don’t know enough about the Southern Hemisphere – though I have to say that when I went to Australia it was an amazing moment to see the BEAUTIFUL Southern Cross up in the sky!
