To be a speaker or a trainer?

In many ways I regret not going more into speaking (a short talk to a large audience) as opposed to training (all day with a smaller group).  The buzz!  The number of people reached!  Only having to do maybe 5 one hour talks a month!!

I started as a trainer because that’s what they were doing at the university where I was a lecturer, and then I didn’t really think about making the jump across until now it’s too late.

Don’t get me wrong, my journey has been great, I’ve loved it, but this is about you not me.  If you’re just setting out, here are the pros and cons, as I see them:

PS: Zoom training has blurred the edges – if I do a zoom talk, is it training or speaking?  If it’s a zoom to 200 people then it’s definitely into keynote speaking territory.  Certainly there is more prep, but it’s better paid per hour, and does give you a bit of a buzz (though not as much as being there in front of everyone!)
