When I started Successful Trainers I realised that we would have a few people all doing it, and I vaguely thought they might want to compare notes, but I never expected the community to be as massively important as it has been. Here the 6 reasons why the community has been a game changer:
- Positive atmosphere of support: if you’re wondering whether you can do something, whether it’s running 10k or losing weight or giving up smoking or becoming a freelance trainer, if you can see other people similar to you and they are doing it – maybe they are a few weeks further ahead on the programme and they are telling you that they felt just like you do now – that’s a huge bit of motivation.
- Learn what from what each other are all doing – what do their websites look like, what is their course content like (how detailed, how many subjects, what kind of visual aids, do they have a book? what prices are they charging, etc
- Learn from what the others are asking when we meet up and ask the coach – you won’t think of every good question yourself
- Share material and share customers when you’re doing different subjects, or when you’re too busy, or if the geography suits your friend better than you. l’ve done this for 20 years with a group of trainers I have accumulated over the years, and we’ve all gained lots of extra sales from working as a team, but to be able to do it right from the start would be really handy for anyone in any business,
- Inspired to keep up with the success of the others – more positive than peer pressure, it lifts everyone up as you all succeed together. You realise you’re capable of more than you thought, and you make more effort than you would have on your own.
- Make lifetime friends as trainers you’ll keep in touch with long after finishing the initial programme – you know they are well trained, you know the quality of their work, and you know them as people.
So although you need coaching, and information, the third thing you need is a good community of like minded people going through the same process. It’s invaluable.
