“What’s on the News?”

We KNOW what’s good for us….

We all want to be happier, and many of us read about it and ask about it – “What’s the one thing I can do to be happier?”

….And yet we already know whether something is good for us or not.

Watching the news?  Definitely not good for us.  Yes, maybe useful information, but you KNOW what it’s doing to your soul don’t you?  All that bad news that you can’t do anything about….

Radio 4 interviewing some annoying politician who won’t answer the question…

Watching that nature programme where the herds are migrating, and “Will the baby elephant survive?” or the detective show where the question is “Will he or she catch the killer before another young girl is murdered?”.   Educational in the first case, fun and exciting in the second case, but – good for us? -  I think we know it isn’t….

Scrolling through Facebook looking at annoyingly successful friends or videos of drunk people…

People who drag us down, complain, criticise, make us feel inferior, suck our energy etc – …I think we know….

And on the other side of the line, walking in the woods or on the beach, or reading a well-written novel, or swimming or cycling…. – you can FEEL the difference.

Our most sensitive times are the first and last hours of the day, because they set the tone for the day and for the night.  So how about making it a habit to avoid all negative activities for those first and last hours of your day?

As Morrissey puts it….. stop watching the news – especially at the start or end of your day.

onwards and upwards!
